NIKETAN

Project - Right to decide

For children/young people with physical and/or mental disabilities, finding a place in the labour market is inherently more difficult. Unfortunately, sexual abuse of this target group is also a major problem. We support Niketan’s work in Bangladesh to provide training to these children to make them more resilient. The trainings are in the areas of resilience, sexuality education, access to the labour market and budget management.

One of the training is ‘My way to work’, where the children/young people further develop their communication skills and learn to better understand the social behaviour of others. Furthermore, young people with physical and/or mental disabilities can develop their skills and gain work experience in a carpentry, farming and sewing.

“I live in Afroza’s place (residential training center). At home I did not get proper food and they tortured me. Here I am safe. I get the carpentry training and help in the field. I dream of an independent life and of earning money. I would like to marry and live a married life. ”
